Dr. Shaunesse' Jacobs Plaisimond "Celebrating Impact on Campus & Beyond"

Join us in Celebrating Religious Studies' newest Assistant Professor, Dr. Shaunesse' Jacobs Plaisimond!

Dr. Jacobs Plaisimond, who joined the Religious Studies Department in the Fall of 2024, has had a successful and busy year! Building on a year of continued professional success, Dr. Jacobs Plaisimond’s recent engagements this fall have reflected both the reach and impact of her work.

Most recently, Dr. Jacobs Plaisimond participated in USF's Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Brown Bag Series. She presented a lecture titled "The Importance of Reclaiming a Religiously Informed Concept of Personhood in Healthcare for Black Birthing People." As an Affiliate Faculty member in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at USF, her presentation offered an interdisciplinary exploration, uniting concepts from Religious Studies and Gender Studies. 

Earlier in October, Dr. Jacobs Plaisimond was involved in the "Pediatric Grand Rounds" held by the University of California, Davis Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics and Office of Continuing Medical Education. Her presentation, titled "King of the Basement: Children's Religious Expressions as a Social Determinant of Health," was made available online and can be viewed In this presentation, she addressed UC Davis's Pediatrics Department on applicable aspects of understanding the impacts of religion on pediatric health.

Up next, on November 12th, Dr. Jacobs Plaisiomond will speak at Columbia University's Institute for Religion, Culture, and Public Life (IRCPL). She will join a panel of distinguished scholars from Harvard University and the University of Michigan for a discussion titled This program is part of Columbia University's IRCPL series "The Shifting Paradigms of American Religion." Dr. Jacobs Plaisimond will be sharing her expertise on the relationship between religion, spirituality, and health, emphasizing her research on embodiment and personhood.

As she continues to share her knowledge across diverse academic and professional settings, Dr. Jacobs Plaisimond inspires colleagues and students alike, bridging disciplines and fostering dialogue around religion, health, and personhood.
