Sung‑Yuan (Mark) Cheng is an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy. His research focuses on financial accounting, disclosure, and computational approaches to understanding capital‑market behavior. His published work includes articles in the Journal of Accounting Research and the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, along with a co‑authored book chapter on computational science methods in accounting and finance. His ongoing projects examine topics such as information dissemination in digital asset markets, corporate green innovation, and the effects of remote auditing on audit quality.

Cheng earned his PhD in business administration (accounting) from the University of Kentucky, where he also taught courses in financial accounting, accounting information systems, and introductory programming for doctoral students. He earned a master’s degree in professional accounting at the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in finance from National Taiwan University. His professional background includes several years in assurance services with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Taipei.

An active participant in the academic community, Cheng regularly attends and contributes to conferences such as the AAA Annual Meeting, the FARS Midyear Meeting, the Deloitte Michael Cook Doctoral Consortium, and other workshops and symposia. He has served as a reviewer and discussant for multiple associations and journals. His research and service have been recognized with several honors, including the Gatton Doctoral Research Excellence Award and the Deloitte Foundation Doctoral Fellowship. He also brings programming skills in Python, SAS, Stata, Tableau, and UCINET to his research.
