Professor Trotz has pioneered new and innovative research areas that have attracted significant levels of external funding to support her ideas and approaches. Her nomination packaged noted how she engages in themes rarely seen among her peers, studying key environmental issues such as survival of coral reefs and nutrient control, that is unique in how it engages communities, motivates students, and attracts top quality Co-PIs.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has previously recognized her research excellence and impact by naming her as a 2023 and a 2024 NSF-KADF Ocean Decade Champion for environmental research, referring to her as a leader at the frontiers of research and innovation in ocean and coastal science.
