When Hurricane Ian made landfall in September 2022, Florida residents already were weary from three years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Category 4 winds and storm surge battered the Fort Myers area, forcing difficult decisions for both residents and responders.

USF team strives to lower the pressure on hypertensive pregnancy disorders

Can hypertensive disorders affect an unborn baby, or threaten the life of a mother? A team at USFs College of Public Health (COPH) is shedding new light on the subject through an ongoing effort launched at the Florida Maternal Hypertension Summit in Orlando in 2024. USFs Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC) partnered with the Florida Hospital Association and two dozen other organizations to address ways to counter the increasing rates of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP).

USF study urges more involvement in cancer studies for Latinos

Cancer doesnt discriminate in how it affects people of different cultural and economic backgrounds, but opportunities to fight the disease are not always on the same battlefield. Researchers from USFs College of Public Health (COPH) are shedding light on one aspect of the issue, summarized in the report From Where Are the Latinos to How to Find Them: A Qualitative Study to Inform Recruitment Efforts in an On-going Psychosocial Cancer Trial for Dyads of Latina Cancer Survivors and Their Intimate Partners, published this month in the journal Psycho-Oncology.
