Current Position/Job Title and Association: Infrastructure and Installation Resilience Engineer, USACE Jacksonville District

Biography: Dr. Polatel is the Infrastructure and Installation Resilience Engineer for the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, with prior experience with the South
Florida Water Management District. She specializes in evaluating and implementing
science-based methods to tackle hydrologic, hydraulic, and structural challenges in
both inland and coastal environments across Florida. Dr. Polatel leads interdisciplinary
initiatives aimed at translating scientific research on extreme precipitation, sea
level rise, and compound flood risk into engineering workflows that promote resilient
infrastructure. Her work includes integrating advanced numerical modeling and risk
assessment into flood risk management and ecosystem restoration projects. Dr. Polatel
collaborates extensively with universities and partner agencies to support the development
of best practices for engineering applications, provide technical guidance, and offer
training for the engineering workforce.
