Office of Academic Resilience and Support
for campus partners
How We Contribute: The Office of Academic Resilience and Support (OARS) is dedicated to achieving USF’s
student success goals by providing personalized support and guidance to
students that extend beyond academics to consider their holistic needs. Across multiple
meetings, we provide students with the necessary resources and accountability check-ins
for success. Along this journey, the student can focus on their academic and personal
development which leads to improved outcomes for the student and works to support
the institution’s goals in key performance metrics.
Alternative Major Planning: Our team specializes in meeting with students whose first major/career choice may
not work out. These students may violate department progression policies and need
to choose an alternative major. We also work with students who haven’t violated department
progression policies yet, however, it has become clear that they are not making timely
progress towards graduation. Academic Colleges at USF will send us lists of these
students each semester to help us target our efforts to those with the most need.
Once a student is referred to our team, we will work with them to explore major options
that fit within degree progression and graduation policies. Once an alternative major
has been identified, the student will be instructed to meet with the Academic Advisor
from that specific major to confirm that the selection is viable and officially declare
               the major.
